Meet Figberry! Our Recovery-Friendly Events Mascot

Events

When you see our friend Figberry, you can rest assured that the event is free from smoking, vaping, drugs, and alcohol and is run by staff and peers with lived recovery experience. Figberry is a way for us to center the energy, focus, and joy on the activities themselves while also acknowledging that these are safe spaces for people of all ages to come together, have fun, and create community without the temptation, worry, or judgment for not partaking in smoking, drinking or substance use and/or the stigma surrounding recovery.

What is a recovery-friendly event?

Many social and leisure activities often involve the presence of alcohol and/or substances creating a challenge for folks in recovery and especially young adults and youth. There are many of us that would like to enjoy activities and feel secure in knowing these things won't be around.

Our events can range from social gatherings, dances, dinners, outdoor excursions, movies/arts, creative activities, health & wellness activities, educational activities and more! We are also mindful of creating events and providing activities that are age appropriate.

Why are recovery-friendly events important?

Community, social relationships, and creative outlets are incredibly important and healthy! in all aspects of life for everyone. This is especially true for:

  • folks on a personal journey of recovery from any type of addiction or substance use disorder
  • youth and young adults to have opportunities for multiple varied healthy, and fun! leisure activities which has been suggested by studies to improve mental health and reduced substance use
  • family and loved ones of someone struggling to maintain positive connections and interactions

Recovery-friendly events provide a form of self-care and help to reduce isolation. Social integration is crucial in addiction recovery. Community involvement reduces stigma and helps folks engage in sober activities, form healthy relationships, and reduce loneliness, providing essential support for a fulfilling recovery and/or a sober lifestyle.

So keep an eye out for Figberry and join us at our next event!
